Savory Meat Pie

If you do not have the spices and herbs requested in this recipe, please use what you have in your cabinet.

2 medium potatoes, peeled and quartered

1 pound of ground beef

3/4 cup chopped onions

1 large carrot, finely chopped

1 garlic clove or 1 teaspoon garlic powder

1/2 teaspoon thyme

1/2 teaspoon sage

1/2 teaspoons salt

1/2 teaspoon pepper

1/4 teaspoon celery salt

pinch of ground cinnamon

pie crust

1 tablespoon prepared mustard

1 tablespoon milk

In a saucepan, boil potatoes until tender. Mash and set aside. Meanwhile, in a skillet, brown beef and drain. Stir in the onions, carrot, and spices. Stir and cook for another 4-5 minutes with your drained beef. Pour meet mixture into a large bowl, mix in your potatoes. Create and place your bottom layer of pie crust into your pie pan. Brush the bottom with the mustard. Add your meat mixture. Top with your remaining pastry, use a fork to seal the edges of the pie crust. Cut slits in the top crust. Brush the pie crust with milk. Bake at 450 degrees for 10 minutes, reduce heat to 250 and bake for 25 more minutes or until golden brown.

As always, roll out any extra pie crust and cut it into fun shapes. Place your shapes on a cookie sheet. Mix a little melted butter, cinnamon and sugar and spread over the top of the pie crust scraps. Bake them until lightly browned and enjoy them for dessert!
